Advanced practice provider (APP) students are enrolled in accredited programs in the following areas:
APP students complete clinical hours with an assigned preceptor. If assistance is needed in identifying a preceptor, please refer to the Preceptor Identification section on this page.
- Nurse practitioner

Allied health students are typically enrolled in schools of respiratory therapy, paramedic/EMS, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, radiology, and more. Students can be present with a clinical instructor or with an assigned preceptor at ECU Health as they near the completion of their degree program. Allied health student placements provide an opportunity for ECU Health to participate in the educational process of allied health students while receiving valuable work contributions from the student participants, as well as developing essential skills of our own leaders and teammates.
Nursing student placements are for students enrolled in accredited nursing programs that will have direct contact with patients or visitors. These students will have a clinical instructor or be placed with a preceptor during their capstone experience.

- Nurse aide
- Licensed practical nurse (LPN)
- Pre-licensure (ADN, BSN)
- RN-BSN
- Graduate nursing (MSN and DNP)
ECU Health promotes the development of students in non-clinical academic programs to engage students in meaningful learning opportunities. These students are enrolled in college programs that are typically in office settings or in areas where they do not have direct contact with patients. Examples of non-clinical placements may include:
- Business
- Community health
- Health care management
- Health information technology
- Finance
- Information services (IS)
- Instructional design

Preceptor identification
ECU Health will assist students with Identification of a qualified preceptor, based on course enrollment and program requirements. It is strongly recommended that you begin this process at least six months prior to the start date of your clinical experience.
Important: Submission of a student placement inquiry and/or assistance with preceptor identification does not guarantee a placement. Placements are contingent upon preceptor availability, site capacity, and completion of all required agreements and documentation.
