EmilyElks

Emily Elks, MPH (She/Her/Hers)

2025-2026 Administrative Fellow
Emily Elks, a Greenville, North Carolina, native, earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from East Carolina University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in public health with a focus on community health and a Master of Public Health with a concentration in health policy, administration and leadership.

Her interest in health care began in high school through the Pitt County Health Sciences Academy, where she gained early exposure to the field. A formative experience shadowing a cardiac intensive care unit nurse at ECU Health deepened her passion for health care. During graduate school, she supported the ECU School of Dental Medicine in preparing for the integration of NCCARE360 system across its Community Service Learning Centers.

Emily looks forward to applying her skills, expanding her knowledge and learning from experienced leaders during her Administrative Fellowship.

Outside of work, she enjoys art, reading, interior design and traveling. She has started collecting antique books from her travels and hopes to return to equestrian sports this year. She shares her home with Darcy, her 10-year-old golden retriever mix. Her favorite foods include seafood and Jersey Mike’s and her happy place is Atlantic Beach.
ManayaPerry

Manaya Perry, MBA (She/Her/Hers)

2025-2026 Administrative Fellow
Manaya Perry, originally from Henderson, North Carolina, earned her undergraduate degree from East Carolina University and completed her graduate studies at Western Governors University. Her path into health care was shaped by a deeply personal experience — the loss of her father due to medical negligence. This tragedy initially inspired her to pursue a career as a physician, but as she navigated the health care system, she encountered systemic challenges that shifted her focus. These experiences ignited a passion for addressing health care disparities and advocating for meaningful improvements that benefit all individuals affected by such issues.

During her MBA program, Manaya participated in several virtual projects, gaining valuable experience in remote collaboration and problem-solving. Her contributions to various initiatives within the Emergency Department at ECU Health Medical Center further strengthened her understanding of health care operations.

During her Administrative Fellowship at ECU Health, Manaya plans to apply her academic knowledge to real-world projects and continue bridging the gap between theory and practice.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoys spending time with loved ones, deepening her faith, giving back to the community, trying new recipes and binge-watching Netflix in her spare time.

“The Administrative Fellowship at ECU Health was a great learning experience for me as an early careerist. Coming in fresh from my MHA program I found the rotations to be really valuable. The rotations provided me with the chance to not only see what I learned in the classroom in action but also to get to know some of the ins and outs of the organization. Coming into the fellowship program I was unsure exactly where I wanted to land in the health care space. However, the program forces you out of your comfort zone into spaces you may have never thought of. I believe that because of this and the program’s emphasis on networking, I was able to find my niche within the organization.”
