Our Nurse Residency Program gives graduate nurses the opportunity to choose from nearly any clinical area to find the best fit for your professional goals. It refines and enhances the skills you already have by pairing you with a strong mentor to support your growth along the way. After completing our new graduate residency program, you’ll have more practical experience and more confidence in your hands-on nursing skills.

RN Residency Program - Prerequisites and Information

Prerequisites and Information

  • ADN or BSN required
  • North Carolina RN license must be active prior to start date
  • 0-6 months of hospital RN experience
  • Full-time position
  • Cohorts start in February and during the summer
  • You will work the schedule of your clinical coach(s) throughout orientation
  • Shift and weekend differentials are available at the start date of your residency orientation
  • Nursing students can work with us as Nursing Assistants while in nursing school

Our Hospitals Offering Residency Programs

  • ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, a Campus of ECU Health Medical Center

    A full-service, 142-bed hospital located in Washington, one of eastern North Carolina’s charming waterway communities on the Pamlico River. With more than 50 physicians and 600 dedicated health care professionals, this progressive facility offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services.

  • ECU Health Bertie Hospital

    A critical-access facility located in Windsor, a small town steeped in eastern North Carolina history. With six beds and an active staff of 135 health care professionals, ECU Health Bertie has a very busy outpatient surgical and medical service.

  • ECU Health Chowan Hospital

    A growing facility in historic Edenton, where services and specialties help make life on the water that much better. With 25 operational beds and a staff of more than 300 dedicated health care professionals, ECU Health Chowan serves more than 45,000 people annually.

  • ECU Health Duplin Hospital

    An 81-bed facility located in Kenansville and has 20 practicing physicians on its active medical staff. It serves Duplin County and surrounding communities in eastern North Carolina with a population of approximately 60,000 people.

  • ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital

    Serves Tarboro and surrounding communities with an impressive array of acute-care offerings. This 101-bed hospital is home to physicians representing more than 20 medical specialties. The hospital opened a cancer center in 2018.

  • ECU Health Medical Center

    One of the nation’s largest Level I trauma centers with 974 beds and more than 7,000 team members. ECU Health Medical Center received Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for quality patient care, nursing excellence and professional practice for the second time in 2018. ECU Health Medical Center serves as the teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and the ECU colleges of nursing and allied health.

  • ECU Health North Hospital

    A 204-bed hospital serving Halifax, Northampton and Warren counties in the north-central region of North Carolina. Its service area also reaches into southern Virginia. With more than 600 team members, ECU Health North Hospital offers a broad range of medical and surgical services. It features a 24-hour emergency department and offers advanced diagnostics as well as specialty and primary care.

  • ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital

    A 114-bed, acute care facility located in Ahoskie. It serves about 40,000 residents in a four-county area. It’s known for its new cancer center, wound healing facility, wellness center, pain management
