About James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital

At the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital, located at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, we are committed to caring for the kids of eastern North Carolina. Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Nursing, Associates in Nursing or higher
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Current NC RN license or licensure to practice in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact state Health Care Provider is required
  • Basic Life Support is required

 

Other Information

The healthcare team in the PICU are pediatric experts in advance hemodynamic monitoring and is equipped to deliver all forms of respiratory support; including high frequency ventilation and ECMO. Registered nurses and providers maintain invasive lines and drains such as arterial, umbilical, central venous, chest tubes, epidural, ventricular, lumbar, pericardial and ECMO cannulas. Common continuous intravenous infusions seen in the critical care setting include those for pain, sedation, paralytics and supportive therapies; such as vasopressors and inotropes.

PICU has a 12 Bed Intensive Care Unit and the population consists of all pediatric patients outside of the immediate newborn period to 18 years of age meeting criteria for intensive or intermediate level of care. Common diagnoses include but not limited to:

  • Actual or threatened respiratory failure
  • Severe or unstable cardiac disease 
  • Neurologic disorders
  • Severe metabolic disturbances
  • Hematologic or oncologic disease with actual life-threatening complications
  • Sepsis and poisonings
  • Critically injured pediatric trauma victims
  • Patients needing ECMO or CRRT
