About James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital
The James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital, located on the campus of ECU Health Medical Center, is designed to care for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. The 198-bed Level II pediatric trauma center provides highly specialized services including neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, kids immunosuppressed specialty unit, specialty care nursery, 24/7 children’s emergency department, pediatric radiology, pediatric surgery, and more. The Children’s Hospital is a designated Children’s Miracle Network hospital, placing it among the nation’s top children’s facilities.
The healthcare team in the PICU are pediatric experts in advance hemodynamic monitoring and is equipped to deliver all forms of respiratory support; including high frequency ventilation and ECMO. Registered nurses and providers maintain invasive lines and drains such as arterial, umbilical, central venous, chest tubes, epidural, ventricular, lumbar, pericardial and ECMO cannulas. Common continuous intravenous infusions seen in the critical care setting include those for pain, sedation, paralytics and supportive therapies; such as vasopressors and inotropes.
PICU has a 12 Bed Intensive Care Unit and the population consists of all pediatric patients outside of the immediate newborn period to 18 years of age meeting criteria for intensive or intermediate level of care. Common diagnoses include but not limited to:
