Vidant Medical Center is a 900+ bed Level-1 Trauma Center, regional referral hospital and is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health. We serve as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Vidant Medical Center provides acute, intermediate, rehabilitation and outpatient services to more than 1.4 million people in 29 counties. Position Summary

  • Visit all newly admitted patients on advanced diets. Visit all patients who have advanced from NPO/Clear Liquid/Full Liquid diets.  Visit with nursing staff on units to identify patients who need help ordering meals.  Document and resolve any patient/nursing complaints regarding meal service.  Communicate with Clinical Dietitians any patient related issues that they need to know about.  Will provide coverage for call center operators or host/hostesses as requested by supervisor or managers. Conduct daily meal rounds.  Complete AYR test trays.

Minimum Requirements

  • High Scool or equivalent is preferred
  • Related experience or education demonstrating knowledge of normal and modified diets and the Carbohydrate Counting and Protein Exchange Systems.
  • Previous networked computer experience preferred; Basic typing skills; Good verbal and written communication skills; Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English (Bilingual in Spanish is preferred)
  • Nutrition education background or previous hospital food service, diet office, of clerical experience preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of work experience is required.
