About ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital

ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed community hospital located in Ahoskie. Serving four nearby counties, the 15-bed emergency department sees approximately 18,000 patients per year. ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital provides a wide range of health services, including medical, surgical and radiation oncology. In addition, the Wound Healing and Pain Management clinics serve as referral centers for neighboring ECU Health hospitals and providers.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC. Ahoskie offers a moderate cost of living, a strong sense of community, and a temperate climate and location to support a variety of year round outdoor activities, such as boating, kayaking, hunting, fishing, hiking, and golf.

Position Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) administers diagnostic and treatment services to patients referred to the Department of Speech Language Pathology and maintains records pertinent to such services. As an SLP, you will be responsible for evaluating any communication impairment that interferes with an individuals premorbid level of function and providing appropriate treatment services. You will also be responsible for providing diagnostic and treatment services involving any swallowing impairment/dysfunction. The Speech Language Pathologist is directly accountable to the manager for the quality of patient care delivered. Will be required to modify and deliver care that is specific to the age, growth, and development of patients according to Departmental scope of services.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must possess a minimum of a Master of Science, a Master of Arts or a Master of Education degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university or higher
  • A N.C. licensure or eligibility for it is required and certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology awarded by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association or equivalent academic and clinical training
  • All course work for ASHO certification in Speech Language Pathology must be completed
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, team members, patients, families and the public
  • Special interest or experience in working as a member of an interdisciplinary team

Preferred:

  • Special interest and experience in neurologically based speech and language disorders

  • This is an PRN, work as needed position
