Position Summary
The Patient Accounts Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily activities of the Patient Counselors. The position is responsible for the customer service area and dealing with incoming calls and walk in patients. To maximize collections with a focus on excellent customer service while working with patients and their financial obligation for services provided.The position requires the ability to supervise staff, understand applicable information systems and utilize good judgement and decision making abilities.
Responsibilities
Assures that policies and procedures pertaining to patient accounting are being followed, thus insuring the overall profitability of the office by effective reduction of the accounts receivable in a timely and accurate manner.
Participates in establishing goals for the Central Business Office
Evaluates and ensures that adequate and timely follow-up on accounts is being performed by each Counselor and Credit Coordinator for each ECU Health hospital and SEC.
Serve as a resource when Risk Management has questions regarding account details; process write off and revenue reversals; maintain ongoing report of Risk Holds.
Review accounts written off to bad debt to assure that there are no third party payers or other means of collection by use of Medicaid/Blue Cross Terminal and pass-pay history on other accounts most collection potential can be discovered. Approve accounts written off to bad debt in order to reduce receivable days.
Review and approve accounts written off to charity, insuring compliance with Charity Policy.
Coaches and develops staff by continually monitoring the learning needs of each staff member and directing and educating them to meet the needs of the department.
Screens, interviews and hires applicants. Assist with new employees in their training and development. Prepare and conduct annual performance appraisals; conducting regular staff meetings that are informative, directive and instructive
Retrieve daily call statistics from Cisco Report; prepare and publish daily, weekly and productivity reports presenting comparative and standard measurement; use report as a management tool.
Performs in accordance with accepted procedure and responds to special requests by management in a timely and accurate manner.
Adheres to the policies and procedures. Uses tact and courtesy in all interactions including but not limited to staff, patients and payers. Promotes a positive image and supports management in goals and objectives. Handles inquiries and complaints discreetly and effectively.
Minimum Requirements
4 year college degree - Healthcare Admin, Finance, Business Degree or related- or higher.
2 Years of experience may substitute for 2 years of education.
3 to 5 years experience in Business Office of a Healthcare Provider, mainly in customer service or collections.
