ECU Health Beaufort Hospital serves as a campus of ECU Health Medical Center. The 142-bed full-service hospital is located in Washington and has earned national designation as a Primary Stroke Center. It is home to a 16-bed emergency department that serves approximately 25,000 patients per year, as well as the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center – a provider of leading-edge chemotherapy and radiation therapy, among other cancer services. ECU Health Beaufort also offers general medical and surgical services, operative services, a women’s birthing center, rehabilitation services and outpatient clinics.
Position Summary
The Telemetry Technician is responsible for the monitoring of cardiac rhythms, documentation, and notifying primary nurse of abnormal rhythms. He/she is responsible for desk functions, answering telephone and patient call system, replenishing charts, etc. If certified as a Nursing Assistant, he/she may work in this capacity when the telemetry census is two or less, in absence of scheduled Nursing Assistant. He/she modifies and delivers care that is specific to the age, growth, and level of development of patients including adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
The secretarial duties are an integral part of the nursing unit, being involved in patient care and documentation of patient care. While not directly responsible for care of the patient, the Unit Secretary is responsible for assuring patient care is accomplished. He/she is responsible for all general duties and is the pivot person in communications.
The Telemetry Technician/Unit Secretary is accountable to and evaluated by the Nurse Manager.

Completes Event Reports correctly with guidance from supervisor.

Recognizes and reports to licensed nurse inappropriate use of abbreviations and drug dose ranges.

Demonstrates an initiative for and willingness to learn new procedures.

Assists with the orientation of new employees under the guidance of the RN. Provides emotional support during orientation. Functions as a cooperative, active member of the healthcare team, and as a role model for the new employee.
Volunteers to participate in inservice education programs.
Attends 75% of unit staff meetings, and reads and initials remaining 25% of minutes.
Minimum Requirements
Medical terminology course required or demonstrated competency
Completion of an EKG Interpretation course
High School Diploma or equivalent GED
CPR certification - current
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Other Information
This is a PRN position requiring a minimum of one 12hr shift per six week period.
