ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed community hospital located in Ahoskie. Serving four nearby counties, the 15-bed emergency department sees approximately 18,000 patients per year. ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital provides a wide range of health services, including medical, surgical and radiation oncology. In addition, the Wound Healing and Pain Management clinics serve as referral centers for neighboring ECU Health hospitals and providers.
Position Summary
Insures by whatever means necessary that defined needs in Pharmaceuticals and supplies are met by developing purchase orders, processing standing purchase orders where applicable, receiving editing and processing requisitions; follow hospital policies and procedures for approval of purchases; makes the vendor selection based on need, average usage, and availability; coordinates purchase orders, receipt of goods and issues are completed using the Pharmacy Materials Management System to maintain Pharmacy Storeroom inventories; assure goods are transferred to the requesting departments, and invoices are sent to the Accounts Payable Department; monitor back orders and emergency orders as necessary; coordinates return of goods; assists receiving by obtaining receipts of goods. Emphasis upon independent negotiations and making value judgements and rendering decisions and recommendations prior to commencing procedural activities.
Responsibilities
Performs data management for the Pharmacy Materials Management System.
Enters new drugs into Materials System-Updates contract prices on a regular basis-Update changes in vendor, products and pricing-Monitors and adjusts inventory as dictated by use or cost.
Know system well enough to provide needed date records of purchasing, cost and volume. Provides product information such as price, availability, performance features and comparability with other products by researching vendors, comparing prices, interviewing sales representatives, and obtaining contract compliance information.
Competent in support of inventory technicians during busy times or personnel shortages with receiving, documentation and filling orders.
Knowledge of operations and performance features of the Fastfill Carousels, EXP packaging machine and liquid packaging operations.
Maintain functional knowledge of the separate Computer System and how they apply/interface to the pharmacy material management system. (I.e. addition of drugs and supplies, venders, reports, requisitions, purchase orders, transfer journal).
Knowledge of procedures with vendor notification when systems require maintenance or downtime is experienced.
Procures medications, supplies and equipment for assigned areas and in accordance with Pharmacy and hospital guidelines as well as state and federal procurement laws.
Works closely with wholesaler in finding alternate drugs. Obtains emergency supply of needed items. Maintains good communication with other areas in Pharmacy.
Seeks best prices available-Maximizes use of pharmacy contracts. Utilizes available resources of all sources to get needed item.
Generate a computer system purchase order for all items procured and maintained in/by the Pharmacy. Assure accuracy of purchase order with proper purchase order numbers, vender information, ship to/bill information, product quantities, identifying number and price before product is ordered or received.
Work closely with Risk Management as the person in charge of all Pharmacy Drug Recalls.
Knowledge of the RASMAS (Risk and Safety Management Alert System) operations and documentation and compliance.
Coordinate notifications of Recall to affected hospital staff.
Coordinate the return or replacements with vendors.
Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Responsible for completing necessary paper work, and maintaining accurate records/files to assure efficiency in operation and resolve problems.
Help in minimizing inventory costs while assuring appropriate supplies for the treatment of patients. Review quantities to prevent duplication and prevent overstock.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent (or higher)
3 or more years as a Pharmacy Technician
Registered as a Pharmacy Tech in North Carolina
