Position Summary

The Orthoptist will serve as an integral member of the pediatric eye care team. The role will provide direct patient care by diagnosing and treating visual system disorders such as abnormalities of binocular vision and eye movement disorders, including amblyopia, diplopia, genetic disorders of the eye, and strabismus. In addition to working alongside the physician in ophthalmology clinics, the Orthoptist will have the opportunity to see patients independently in their own strabismus/amblyopia clinic, if desired. The Orthoptist will have a unique opportunity to be part of a growing department, and join a team dedicated to improving pediatric ophthalmology care for children across the state.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in related field is required.
• Candidates without certification who have significant experience working in pediatric ophthalmology and/or strabismus will be considered.
• Extensive knowledge of medical terminology specifically as related to eye and vision issues
• Demonstrated mastery of ophthalmic testing and examination techniques.
• Familiarity with word processing and basic computer functions. 
• Ability to perform efficient and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record system.
• Professional demeanor with initiative and good judgment
• ability to routinely organize and prioritize in an efficient and productive manner; demonstrates appropriate work attendance and punctuality

Preferred Requirements

• Completion of a 2-year post-baccalaureate orthoptic training program with certification from the American Orthoptic Council is preferred
