Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) perform clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.

As a MLT, you will:

• Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing. Perform laboratory tests specific to department

• Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity

• Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems

• Assist in orientation or training of new or less experienced employees or students

• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment

• Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity

• Works alternate shifts as required

• Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy

Minimum Requirements

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is required.  Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement

• 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Technician

Preferred:

• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency

Other Information

• 40 hours a week

• Weekdays (3 pm - 11:30 pm)

• Required to work rotational weekends every 3rd weekend
