Position Summary

Receives and processes payments, deposits, petty cash, employee checks and various miscellaneous items and balances cash drawer daily. Receives and processes all incoming checks and correspondence. Interacts with patients by phone and in person, answering questions regarding patient bills and directing them to the appropriate representative when needed. Receives and dispenses patient valuables and processes returned mail.

Responsibilities

Receives and processes payments for patient bills and payments from employees for miscellaneous items; handles all deposits and change requests for Dietary, Pharmacy and Children's Hospital; properly disburses petty cash and cashes employee checks; properly sells and dispenses miscellaneous items; balances cash drawer and prepares deposit.

Receives and sorts all Business Office mail; batches and balances all payments received by mail and forwards to Cash Posting; processes all correspondence and forwards to the appropriate personnel.

Greets patients and employees and answers general inquires regarding patient and/or directs them to the appropriate personnel as necessary. Receives patient valuables by properly logging all valuable envelopes and documenting information on patient accounts; attempts to contact patients after discharge regarding valuables left in the vault; dispenses patient valuables by obtaining appropriate identification; logs empty valuables envelopes out and forwards them to the Financial Services Building to be filed in the patient's chart.

Receives and processes returned mail by researching all avenues available including calling, searching the computer, checking phone list and tax listings; documents all research on account; correct addresses on computer.

Minimum Requirements

High School plus 2 years or more of formal training/education or higher.
