Position Summary
The primary role of the Psychology Department at ECU Health Medical Center is to serve the psychological needs of the inpatients of the hospital as well as the outpatient needs of the greater community. Some neuropsychologists may focus on assessment of outpatient referrals from the community while others may provide assessment of hospital patients and consult with the treatment teams (e.g., TBI). Neuropsychologists are expected to support team members by providing back-up and overflow coverage when possible. Neuropsychologists are expected to abide by the Ethical principles of Psycologists and Code of Conduct of the American Psychological Association at all times.
Responsibilities
1. Uses psychological and neuropsychological diagnostic and treatment skills, commensurate with training to enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of patients served.
2. Use appropriate tools such as the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to accurately diagnose; to evaluate coping, cognitive functioning, competency, etc., and to treat psychological disorders according to training.
3. Possesses general psychological and neuropsychological skills and develops and maintains specific skills in order to treat special populations, as needed.
Identifies and plans for own educational development and applies knowledge gained to clinical practice
4. Provides services which promote interdisciplinary treatment effectiveness as applicable.
5. Assumes increased reponsibility for solving problems directly related to difficult patient care and supervision of peer consulation as needed to handle more dificult cases outside area of expertise.
6. May provide supervision or peer consultation to Neuropsychologist I-IV and/or Psychological Associates, according to training.
7. Successfully achieves goals set with administrative supervisor and documented in Performance Appraisal. Attends and participates in all mandatory and/or appropriate meetings within and/or outside of the department. Participates in job-related professional activities (e.g., performance improvement, chart review, training, etc), as applicable/requested. Keeps supervisor abreast of relevant matters that may relate to the policies, procedures and goals of the department.
8. Manages productivity and performance measurements related to the Psychology Department such as billable services and peer reviews, etc.
9. Documents clinical services in the Electronic Health Record (E.H.R.) and enters charges within specified time frames.
10. While all psychologists perform the work/duties or similar as listed above, each psychologist is classified by a clinical ladder system with a range from I - IV. Each level represents additional responsibility. Staff are expected to maintain clinical ladder standing through ongoing maintenance projects.
May assist in evaluating staff competency in desginted areas.
Minimum Requirements
Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D) is required.
Two year post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology is required.
NC Licensure as a Psychologist required.
Health Service Provider Psychology. Prefer certification in neuropsychology.
3 or more years of full time neuropsychology experience required
experience in a hospital, behavioral health, and /or rehab setting preferred.
