Position Summary
Evaluates psychosocial, emotional and adjustment needs of patients in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center relative to the patients disease conditions and impairments. Provides supportive therapy and counseling as indicated to assist patients, families and significant others in their adjustment to the physical, psychosocial and emotional changes secondary to the patient's medical condition(s). Effectively collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to support the patient's rehabilitation program and transition to the next level of care.
Documents assessments and interventions according to policy and consitent with professional standards of the discipline. Seeks input from others to facilitate performance in the position. Supervises Master's level intern at the Rehabilitation Center when indicated.
Responsibilities
1. Assesses patients upon referral consistent with professional practice of the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
2. Develops a plan of care as indicated; implements the plan and evaluates and revises care based on patient and family needs, progress, and input from the interdisciplinary team; documents findings and treatments in the electronic health record (EHR) consistent with the professional practice of the discipline
3. Communicates patient information in verbal and written formats
4. Consults with physicians and members of the interdisciplinary team as needed:
Participates in Interdisciplinary Team Conferences and provides updates on patient status
Participates in discharge planning and provides patient and family education.
5. Supervises Master's level Marriage and Family Therapy Interns rotation at the
Rehabilitation Center; assists in his/her learning plan
6. Identifies and plans for own learning needs
7. Contributes to organizational/program goals by active participation in meetings and committees if requested
8. Conforms to the standard operating procedures established for the rehab programs, Rehabilitation Center, ECU Health Medical Center and ECU Health
9. Demonstrates effective interpersonal relations and communication
10. Participates in quality improvement activities
Minimum Requirements
Masters Degree or higher from an accredited Marriage and Family Therapy Program or equivalent
Doctoral candidate preferred
Preferred AAMFT Supervisor candidate
Less than 1 year clinical experience as a marriage and family therapy intern
