Position Summary

Employee actions reflect a commitment to patient and family centered care through demonstrating the belief that patient and family needs and wishes must be actively solicited and engaged and that their preferences must be at the center of all services.

The Communications Associate Shift plays a vital role in the internal and external communications between patients, families, visitors, employees and external customers serving as an important first point of contact. They are a vital link between a caller and the person who can help. Communications Associates also handle urgent calls between members of the healthcare team in ECU Health hospitals and the community.

The Communications Associate works in partnership with all hospital departments, ECU after hours and holiday call, and serves as the liaison to route and deliver routine and emergency communication, in the effort to provide the optimal experience in patient and family centered care.

Responsibilities

Receives incoming calls and transfers to appropriate parties. Assists and logs outgoing calls such as long distance calls for patients and/or employees.

Responds to alarms and emergency calls according to standard operating procedure.

Operates overhead paging system as directed; maintains up-to-date pager and telephone contact information of employees.

In-partnership with ECU, handle after hour calls and holiday calls to connect them to the appropriate resource.

These responsibilities are not limited but can be added to at the discretion of the Manager, in order to facilitate the best outcome for the patients and families served.

Minimum Requirements

High School or equivalent

No experience is required, prior switchboard experience is a plus.
