It features a 24-hour emergency department and offers advanced diagnostics as well as specialty and primary care.
Position Summary
Under the Clinical Supervision of the Director of Patient Care Services and the overall supervision of the Vice President for Patient Care Services, the Nursing Supervisor provides safe, expedient, cost-effective delegation of hospital staff. As a member of a team of health care professionals, the Nursing Supervisor assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care and assignments for admissions, transfer, and deaths in collaboration with the physicians and other disciplinary team members which is age-appropriate for patients in his/her assigned unit or clinical settings. The Nursing Supervisor behaves in a manner consistent with the standards and ethics of all health care professionals. Nursing Supervisors are involved in clinical decision-making and evaluation of treatment efficacy. Nursing Supervisors are required to document in the electronic medical record factual, accurate, complete and timely legal information.
Responsibilities
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and diagnosis of the patient.
Systematically assesses patients overall clinical status and assists staff with care.
Provides direct clinical assistance and guidance to the nursing staff during designated shift.
Solves clinical / patient care / personnel problems which arise during designated shift
Makes staffing adjustments each shift and keeps an accurate record for staff and patients during designated shift.
Contributes to the quality of care at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and Supervises nursing care provided on designated shifts.
Intervenes with patients and families in times of crisis and documents interventions appropriately.
Represents hospital administration in patient/family interactions as situations require in absence of Director/Vice President.
Coordinates activities for designated shift and gives pertinent end of shift report.
Identifies need for and initiates referrals as dictated by patient status.
Provides nursing and ordered therapeutic interventions according to current standards of care and hospital policy.
Incorporates department protocol driven care appropriately to direct clinical/non-clinical practice.
Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper hand washing according to infection control policy.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information
Uses departmental key words to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone
Participates in life-support activities as required, responding to RRT and Code Blue emergencies as per unit/department protocol.
Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards
Demonstrates effective computer skills for electronic charting, billing (as appropriate for department) order processing and assigning rooms
Participates in at least 50 hours of in-service Education, Patient Rounds/Conferences and obtains education contact hours necessary to maintain licensure.
Actively participates on Action Team of own choosing
Minimum Requirements
Licensure/Registration/Certification: License as a Registered Nurse, must maintain licensure with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Associate Degree- or higher.
