ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center has achieved Magnet® designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to a 29-county region that is home to more than 1.4 million people.

Position Summary

Up to $30K in Commitment Incentive 

• Under direction of the Nurse Manager, is delegated certain responsibilities and authority for managing a nursing unit. These responsibilities are coordinating, evaluating and improving nursing care and assisting the Nurse Manager in promoting safe, cost effective, quality patient care.
• Assigns patient care to staff.
• Acts as liaison between the patient, family and physician.
• Develops leadership/managerial role.
• Participates in Service Excellence Program.

Minimum Requirements

• BSN required- or higher. NC RN licensure required.
• One year of additional graduate education may be substituted for one year of experience with a maximum substitution of two years.
• Two to three years of clinical experience in nursing,  one year of which is in the clinical subspecialty required. 
• Preferred previous leadership experience and knowledge of computer applications, such as Excel, Word, Power Point and Groupwise. Time in staffing (functioning in the charge nurse roll) and office time will be based on OIP recommendations for the unit.

Other Information

Rehab Medicine is an acute unit that provides care to various population of patients. Some of our patients are admitted directly from Intensive Care in order to begin improving better outcomes for the patient and to hopefully reduce the length of stay for the patient. Listed below are some of the common diagnoses of our patient’s population included but not limited to:

• Orthopedics, Amputations, Cardiac, Respiratory, Debility, Trauma, Vents, Spinal Cords, and Stroke
• Specialized care for adults and geriatrics
• 1000 admissions a year and Average LOS: 15 days

Rehab Medicine unit mission is to provide outstanding patient care and improve the functionality of the patient, in hopes of returning these patients back to home and the community functioning at the highest level.
