ECU Health North Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited, 204-bed acute bed facility serving Halifax, Northampton and Warren counties in the north-central region of North Carolina. Its service area also reaches into southern Virginia. With more than 600 team members, the hospital offers a broad range of medical and surgical services. It features a 24-hour emergency department and offers advanced diagnostics as well as specialty and primary care.

Position Summary

The Staff Nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide clinical care and supervise department partnerships to achieve positive patient outcomes. The Staff Nurse demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life-span, and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the appropriate information required to identify needs of the patient relative to his/her age and condition.


Communicates effectively presenting a positive and professional image in all interactions.

Communicates with physicians during rounds. Actively offers data and seeks clarification of plan of care.

Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate positive patient outcome.

Participates in patient care conferences.

Documents patient response to care correctly and promptly in the medical record.

Participates in case management process to facilitate timely follow-up and transitions of care.

Timely processing of patient information to support departments (Lab, Radiology, and Data Processing).

Assists with precepting new staff and students when needed.

Cooperative and willingly performs duties.

Identifies needs and offers suggestions to improve patient care and job satisfaction.

Assesses ability of patient and/or caregivers to develop a plan of care.

Identifies referral needs on checkout and initiates referrals.
Uses nursing process to plan individualized nursing care.

Shows skill in assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.

Plans, supervises, delegates, provides, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients.

Develops and implements a patient plan of care reflecting use of the nursing process and individual patient needs.

Updates plan of care to reflect current status and to address care management needs.
Delivers patient care and performs treatment and procedures according to current standards of care.

Minimum Requirements

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Current license as a RN in the state of North Carolina.

Demonstrates competencies in nursing practice.

Basic computer skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nurses at ECU Health Family Medicine Avon Clinic - American Heart Association ACLS is required.
