About ECU Health Chowan Hospital

ECU Health Chowan Hospital in Edenton is a 25-bed critical access hospital which provides programs and services to 110,000 people in 6 counties. The facility offers medical and surgical services, including intensive care, a specialty care clinic and a dedicated outpatient surgery area with endoscopy capabilities. A 7-bed emergency department serves approximately 15,000 patients per year and team members at the facility have access to a telemedicine link with the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Position Summary

Processes patient requests for outpatients and outside account patients. Performs venipuncture (on individuals of all ages), skin puncture (on individuals of all ages), and arterial punctures (on individuals greater than 16 years of age) on outpatients, hospital inpatients and outside account patients. Prepares specimens from hospital inpatients, outpatients, and outside account patients for clinical and reference laboratory testing. Maintains required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies. Efficient performance of these duties requires a person with manual dexterity, accuracy of work, mental alertness, and physical endurance. The job requires a neat appearing, pleasant, tactful individual with a sincere interest in others. Must be able to cooperate with others in the team and follow ECU Health and Pathology personnel policies. Must be able to follow directions and work under pressure.

Minimum Requirements

High School or equivalent (or higher)

Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency is preferred

6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office outpatient clinic or other medical setting is preferred

Other Information

This is a PRN position without benefits.

Shift:  PRN, as needed.
