Position Summary
Performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.
Responsibilities
Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing. Perform laboratory tests specific to department.
Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.
Assist in orientation or training of new or less experienced employees or students.
Serve as lead worker and assume responsibilities of supervisor in section supervisor's absence: coordinate activities and assign duties to personnel; assist supervisor with preparation of reports, review or quality control procedures and records, inventory of supplies, writing and reviewing technical procedures, shift interaction and evaluation of personnel.
Assist in preparation for accreditation inspections.
Participates in hospital interdisciplinary teams
Participate in performance improvement processes
Participate in new method evaluations and implementations.
Performs and documents linearity studies, method validations and correlations.
Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.
Works alternate shifts as required.
Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.
