ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital is a full-service, 117-bed acute care facility where residents of Tarboro and the surrounding communities can receive a wide range of health services close to home. As part of the ECU Health system of care, the hospital offers high quality care provided by more than 20 medical specialists, rehabilitation services, a birthing center, a cancer center, outpatient clinics and more.

 

Position Summary

The Hematology Supervisor will work under the Clinical Supervision of the Medical Director of the Clinical Laboratory and the overall supervision of the Laboratory Department Manager, and Assistant Manager. As the Hematology Supervisor, you must maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.Supervisors must perform clinical laboratory tests in all areas of the laboratory by standard operating policies and procedures. Supervisors must understand method principles; perform quality control testing & calibrations; performs preventive maintenance; reviews and analyzes results to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. Reviews test results for abnormal or critical values for each age group as indicated. All Laboratory employees must work according to rotation of schedule and the needs of the facility and department when deemed necessary by the laboratory manager. In addition, the Supervisor is responsible for maintaining his/her area to include quality control data and review, updates to procedures and policies, and inventory and cost control. As a member of a team of health care professionals, a Supervisor operates laboratory equipment accurately and efficiently, Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in patient/staff relations, Contributes to continuous quality improvement, Functions as a member of the patient care team, chooses best site collections from patients of all ages in a wide variety of clinical settings. Supervisor will behave in a manner consistent with the standards and ethics of all health care professionals. In addition to performing laboratory  procedures, Supervisor are involved in clinical decision-making (such as initiating RRT for patient status changes, selection of best possible site for blood collections, and assessment of patients that have a need for central line placement to obtain a sample). Supervisors are required to document in the electronic medical record accurate, complete, orders when received from outpatients.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate Degree or higher

Other Information

  • 40 hours a week
  • 7 am - 3:30 pm or 6 am - 4:30 pm
  • Required to work occasional rotating weekends and holidays
