ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital is a full-service, 117-bed acute care facility where residents of Tarboro and the surrounding communities can receive a wide range of health services close to home. As part of the ECU Health system of care, the hospital offers high quality care provided by more than 20 medical specialists, rehabilitation services, a birthing center, a cancer center, outpatient clinics and more.

 

Position Summary

Under the Clinical Supervision of the Medical Director of Respiratory Care and the overall supervision of the Manager of Respiratory Care and Respiratory Care Supervisor, the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) provides safe, expedient, cost-effective Respiratory Care services.  As a member of a team of health care professionals, an RCP evaluates, treats and manages patients of all ages with respiratory illnesses and other cardiopulmonary disorders in a wide variety of clinical settings.  Respiratory Care Practitioners behave in a manner consistent with the standards and ethics of all health care professionals. In addition to performing respiratory care procedures, RCP's are involved in clinical decision-making (such as patient assessment, treatment selection and reassessment of treatment efficacy), goal directed respiratory care planning and patient education.  RCP's are required to document in the patient medical record factual, accurate, complete, timely, legible and legal information about the care they provide to each patient. Each RCP is responsible for billing the patient correctly for the services provided.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate Degree or higher in an approved COARC program for Respiratory Care
  • Active licensure with the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board upon hire and is maintained yearly
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registry Eligible with RRT credential obtained within 6 months of graduation
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Life Support (ACLS) certifications required through the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications through the American Heart Association must be completed within 6 months of employment and maintained , if not current at time of hire
  • Active status with NBRC recommended

Career Levels

Level I:

  • Less than 3 years of Respiratory Therapy experience

Level II:

  • 3 - 10 years of Respiratory Therapy experience

Level III:

  • 10 plus years of Respiratory Therapy experience

Level IV:

  • 3 - 5 years of Respiratory Therpay experience 
  • BS Degree with specialized certifications (NBRC, ACCS, or NPS)

Other Information

  • This is a PRN, work as needed position
  • 12 hour shifts
  • Primarily Days (7 am - 7 pm)
  • Required to work other shifts and weekends, as needed
