About ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, a campus of ECU Health Medical Center

ECU Health Beaufort Hospital is located in Washington and serves as a campus ECU Health Medical Center, our Level I Trauma Center in Greenville. The 142-bed full-service hospital offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services including medical, surgical, intensive care, emergency, pediatrics and women’s services. In addition there is a lab, diagnostic imaging services, physical and respiratory therapy. The facility also features the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, offering leading-edge chemotherapy and radiation therapy, among other cancer services.

Position Summary

Under the Clinical Supervision of the Medical Director of Respiratory Care and the overall supervision of the Manager,Assistant Manager and Respiratory Care Supervisor the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP), III functions in a safe, expedient, and cost-effective manner in providing, responding to patient needs and documenting respiratory care and services provided. The Respiratory Care Practitioner III is involved in the Clinical Ladder program which is a voluntary promotion system that recognizes health care professionals who demonstrate advanced knowledge, critical thinking skills, and professional development.

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (issued by the American Heart Association) is required
  • Associate Degree or higher in an approved COARC program for Respiratory Care
  • Active licensure with the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board upon hire and is maintained yearly
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registry Eligible with RRT credential obtained within 6 months of graduation
  • Advance Life Support Certification (ACLS), if not current at time of hire, must complete within first 6 months of employment and maintained
  • If working in the Children's hospital you are required to have PALS and NRP in place of the ACLS and you must have completed the NBRC NPS exam by 12 months from your orientation end date
  • For non medical center Respiratory care departments BLS and ACLS are required at hire. PALS and NRP are required at 6 months from hire date
  • 10 plus years experience is required
  • Active status with NBRC recommended
