About ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital

ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed community hospital located in Ahoskie. Serving four nearby counties, the 15-bed emergency department sees approximately 18,000 patients per year. ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital provides a wide range of health services, including medical, surgical and radiation oncology. In addition, the Wound Healing and Pain Management clinics serve as referral centers for neighboring ECU Health hospitals and providers.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC. Ahoskie offers a moderate cost of living, a strong sense of community, and a temperate climate and location to support a variety of year round outdoor activities, such as boating, kayaking, hunting, fishing, hiking, and golf.

Position Summary

As a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), you will perform clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.

Minimum Requirements

Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology

  • For New Graduates: OR currently enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) and have completed the specific laboratory rotation (e.g. Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services)
  • Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement

Career Ladder

Level I:

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency preferred

Level II:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency preferred

Level III:

  • 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency required

Level IV:

  • 7 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency required

Other Information

  • 36 hours a week
  • Weekend Nights:  7 pm - 7 am (Friday - Sunday)
