About ECU Health Duplin Hospital

ECU Health Duplin Hospital is an 81-bed facility located in Kenansville, North Carolina. The 15-bed emergency department serves approximately 25,000 patients per year. In addition to providing general medical and surgical services, ECU Health Duplin Hospital offers chemotherapy and other cancer infusion interventions and has earned national designation as a Primary Stroke Center.

Position Summary

Responsible for assessing, treatment planning and execution of Occupational Therapy treatments.  These services are based on the patient/family preferences and the developmental needs, medical conditions and diseases as they affect patient care and recovery.  The staff therapist will be responsible for maintaining patient care documentation and adherence to documentation guidelines. The staff therapist shall participate in patient care staffing and assist other team members in understanding the patient problems as related to the patient's occupational performance.

Responsibilities

  • May screen patient by collecting data and information. Reports data to Occupational Therapist (OT), in writing or verbally.
  • May perform and record results of structured or standardized evaluations. Assists OT in selecting therapy techniques and media.
  • Under direction of OT, engages patient in daily purposeful therapy program to achieve OT program goals.
  • May participate in patient care conferences and assist other team members in understanding the patient problems as related to the patient's occupational performance. Will be responsible for the safety of patients assigned to him/her.
  • Responsible for maintaining a patient caseload and meeting established productivity standards.
  • Unsafe conditions or actions are to be corrected and/or reported to the supervising OT, the interdisciplinary supervisor and/or the program manager.  Will be responsible for his/her attendance at department staff meetings.Will be expected to actively participate in: Establishment of program goals and objectives,  staff utilization, space allocation, program development, and Inservice training.

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy Assistant is required.
  • Passed or eligible for National Board for Certification of   Occupational Therapy  Assistant(NBCOT).
  • OTA licensure or eligible with State of North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy (NCBOT).
  • Progressive and dynamic knowledge of Occupational Therapy and a willingness to participate in continuing education, to remain current in new theories of treatment.  Ability to work with other health care professionals in a manner that will ensure continued cooperative efforts.
  • Must have Valid N.C. driver's license with minimum NC automobile insurance requirements.

Preferred Requirements

  • Prior experience in an acute hospital or inpatient rehabilitation setting is preferred.

  • Location: Wallace and Kenansville outpatient as needed; potential for inpatient care at hospital as well
