About James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital

The James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital, located on the campus of ECU Health Medical Center, is designed to care for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. The 198-bed Level II pediatric trauma center provides highly specialized services including neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, kids immunosuppressed specialty unit, specialty care nursery, 24/7 children’s emergency department, pediatric radiology, pediatric surgery, and more. The Children’s Hospital is a designated Children’s Miracle Network hospital, placing it among the nation’s top children’s facilities.

Position Summary

Children's Transport Respiratory Therapist will function as a member of the critical care transport team and be responsible for the care of critically ill and injured pediatric and neonatal patients, by air and ground, working in conjunction with ECU Health EastCare. The respiratory therapist administers competent care of patients through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapies, respiratory care procedures, and advanced practice procedures per Children's Transport medical director and following the North Carolina Office of Emergency Service (NCOEMS) guidelines. You will also be assisting the Children's Hospital respiratory therapists when transports are not required.

ECU Health EastCare provides critical care transport using both air and ground service to Eastern, North Carolina. We are based at ECU Health Medical Center, home of the region's only Level-1 Trauma Center and Children's Hospital. ECU Health EastCare is nationally recognized for safety, quality and service. We are fully accredited by CAMTS (the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems).

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate Degree: with 2 years of RRT experience
  • Completion of a 2 year AMA approved respiratory care program (Associates degree or equivalent), with a Bachelors Degree (or higher) preferred. Must be RRT and a minimum of 2 years in clinical respiratory therapy, including a minimum of 1 year in pediatric or neonatal intensive care, or equivalent critical care transport experience
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP and PALS certifications prior to completion of orientation
  • EMT certification within one year of completion of orientation
  • Neonatal or Pediatric specific certification (NPS or C-NPT) within two years of hire.
