This position performs all duties related to the processing of external referrals and/or placement of patients in need of behavioral health services from Emergency Department or non-BH inpatient units.
All referrals are recorded in the ECU Health designated database in a timely manner.
Duties include all aspects of pre-admission intake and/or placement
Duties also include primary responsibility for ensuring that initial precertification is completed for all patients admitted to assigned Behavioral Health unit, when applicable.
Additionally, this position would provide backup assistance to the Utilization Management (UM) team as necessary and/or possible.
The Triage Specialist is expected to provide referral and follow-up on patients meeting the inpatient admission criteria.
Interacting with a variety of internal and external referral sources is a major component of this position.
The Triage Specialist are required to work very closely and cooperatively with the providers (including attendings, residents, APPs) on the Consult/Liaison Team and with the inpatient units The Triage Specialist must demonstrate exemplary customer service skills and be able to balance numerous competing priorities.
The Triage Specialist must be very flexible and be able to respond to the needs of the situation at any given time. Additionally, they must be able to work quickly with the goal of providing our referrals with an answer in a very expeditious and efficient manner. They must have knowledge and experience with the DSM ) and involuntary commitment rules and processes.
The Triage Specialist may also work on placement of patients who have been referred to the Placement Service that are located in contracted hospitals and need behavioral health inpatient services. Such patients may be holding in an ED or a med-surg floor.
Bachelors Degree- or higher.
A Master's degree in a clinical field such as social work, counseling or similar may substitute for up to 2 years of the required experience.
Possess at least 3-4 years assessment experience in either an inpatient behavioral health setting or an outpatient emergency services setting.

7 days on, 7 days off
